Short Biography

Born and raised in California, Mark Bennington was a classically trained, working actor for ten years before picking up the camera in 2004. Since then, he has been commissioned to click thousands of portraits and has worked with some of the biggest names around the world. Mark also served as an adjunct professor of photography at the S.I. Newhouse School of Media and Communications at Syracuse University. Mark’s first book “Living the Dream: The Life of the ‘ Bollywood’ Actor” (Harper Collins) released early this year to huge praise from the industry and around the country. (In his downtime, Mark also steps in front of the camera for fun- you can see him portraying the role of Deputy Commissioner Wilkie in Dibakar Banerjee’s 2015 film Detective Byomkesh Bakshy!)

Mark’s work speaks volumes on his observations, his flair for connecting with the soul of the place he is in and the person he is in front of, and ultimately the love affair he has with the city of Mumbai that heavily features in most of his latest works. Mark’s images all have a distinct style, a relentless drama ever evolving with the personality of his subject, and truthfully presented without pretence. It is this very same quality that places him a class apart from his contemporaries
